Curriculum Unit Plan - Geometry: Circles
(download: Unit Plan Overview)
Instructor: Mr. Derek T. Young Location: Winnacunnet High School
Course: Geometry – Honors Dates: 1/31/07 – 2/13/07
Textbook: Larson, Boswell, Stiff. Geometry. McDougal Little. Evanston, IL. 2004.
Sections Covered: 10.1-10.6, 11.4, and 11.5
For my two solo weeks of the internship program, in addition to other classes, I taught an entire unit to two Geometry - Honors courses on Circles. The unit lasted the full two-week period with dates indicated above (10 teaching days). While the text served as main guidance for learning progression and resources, lessons were customized and personalized to the learning levels of the class. Classes were 70 minute, block scheduled.
Overall Unit Objectives:
This unit on circles is designed as a continuation of geometrical concepts students learn throughout the entire geometry course in a rigorous level designed for honors students. In this unit, students advance and enhance their geometric learning by discovering many theorems regarding circles and their properties. At times, students were asked to recall their geometric construction abilities and earlier geometric concepts. By the end of this unit, students will have a thorough understanding of circles, their properties, theorems, and applications. (Further information and details for the unit are available in the document download, My Unit Plan Overview.)
